Congratulations to TVBR’s “Portals”-themed Short Story Contest Winners

The Vincent Brothers Review editors are pleased to announce the winning entries from our “Portals”-themed Short Story Contest. Rafael Alvarez, a veteran writer based in Baltimore, chose the final four place winners from a list of ten semi-finalists TVBR editors selected.

The winners are as follows:

“The Nine” by Erica Simone Turnipseed was awarded first place.

“Anomalies” by Robert McGee was awarded second place.

PG Smith’s “Welcome to Alcatraz” was awarded third place.

Gary Bolick’s “Echolocation (Easter 1959)” was awarded an honorable-mention prize.

All four stories will appear in our “Portals”-themed, print Issue #28, due out at the end of 2024. Some of the ten contest finalists will also appear in that print issue or on our website “Portals”-themed issue.

Judging criteria for the contest and an interview with Alvarez—including his comments about the four prize-winning stories—will be available on TVBR’s Substack newsletter when it launches at the end of March 2024.

Thank you to all writers who entered the contest.
